FORMATOCOMODO presents Paper, thoughts and gravity, the first solo exhibition of Joost Krijnen (Breda, 1983) in Spain.

Joost Krijnen realizes a specific project based on drawings, personal notes and documents from his daily life. The frankness of the gesture, the use of clean lines and a distracted look become the main elements.

A series of works integrating materials such as wood, clay and paper are presented. For the first time they are used as a support for painting to define the concept of gravity. Behind each of them, there is an intention to evoke questions that start from the representation of painting itself, its dimensionality and configuration in space.

In works such as "United as a community we achieved our dreams" an energetic attitude, quick and intuitive sketches show a strong narrative element. In turn, "Acting natural" or "1,000,000,000 years" reveal different stages of Krijnen's work process, in which almost organically colored planes are placed in perspective before an apparent arbitrariness. Dissonant and harmonious, the exhibition unites works that merge in different layers in harmony with each other.

After his residency at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, Joost Krijnen was awarded two of the most prestigious prizes in the Netherlands, the Royal Award 2015 and the De Scheffer Art Prize. His work is part of collections such as the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (Netherlands) and the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (Netherlands).
